About
Central to my work is the ongoing discovery of sculpture and its relationship to space and emotion. I am interested in the symbolism of man made as well as natural materials and their uncanny use in combination.
I see materials and colours as imbued with personalities, part of a personal register that prompts the use of forms and the conversations between different elements within my work. I make art with plaster, clay, wax and fabric combined with found objects. Organic materials are juxtaposed with artificial ones such as rope, chains, ribbons, synthetic hair. I am fascinated by materials defying our expectations, poking out, piercing through, constraining, or escaping; elements are often assembled to seek tension but also balance with their counterparts.
My practice aims at distilling complex emotions and experiences through abstract configurations. These relate to and interrogate inner narratives of turmoil, desire, anxiety, euphoria and sorrow, confinement and release. I imagine an ‘inner trickster’ who acts from within us, hinting at a dialogue between our dual personae - a true self and a public one. The trickster follows natural law and can sometimes be irrational, often resulting in conflict with logical human laws. My art explores New Materialism, whereby nature has its agency and is not counter to culture or society, but is in duality and interaction with them.
I am a London-based artist, originally from Sweden. I previously qualified as an architect and I have worked extensively with the fabric of buildings, space and surfaces. My work includes sculpture, paintings and site-specific pieces – Some settle some depart, Art made This, Gothenburg 2022, Strawhouse, Outpost, London 2019 and Trapphus, Bostadsrättsföreningen Furan, Gothenburg 2016. I have taken part in a number of group exhibitions including m2 ARTISTS: RECENT WORK 1 at ASC Gallery 2022, Lines & Curves during the London Design Festival 2021, MK Calling, MK Gallery 2020, Threshold at m2 Gallery 2019, Genesis Light Magic at St John in Bethnal Green 2018, Creekside Open 2017 as selected by Alison Wilding at APT Gallery, and monoChroma, Crypt Gallery 2016. I curated Scenograph, a group show at Obiter Studio, London, 2020 and the recent The comrades they were brave – We salute you!at 44 GRS Gallery 2022, which received ACE funding. In 2017 I took part in LCN Artist Development Programme at Space, London and in 2018-19 the Peer mentoring programme at Cubitt, London. I am currently a participant at MASS Sculpture Programme, run by Turps Education, London.
